Contender Charter Cloth

Contender Supercruise

Contender Chart Cloth
Contender Charter cloth was developed specifically for worldwide charter fleets and designed to meet the demands of UV protection and the problem of wear during long periods of time on the water.

To offset these issues Contender developed larger denier warps to add to the chafe and tear resistance of the cloth which increases its strength and stretch resistance. It also provides UV protection over a longer period of time. By using special looms, careful selection of yarn, and heavy warps, this becomes an economical fabric with exceptional quality.

Contender Supercruise

Everyone wants a good price, but not at the expense of quality.  That is what makes Supercruise by Contender Sailcloth such a good value.  Between the quality fabric and superior construction, you will find improved stretch resistance, bias stability, and excellent fabric recovery.

Its finish is designed to balance the shape-holding quality that will reflect in its good furling and ease of flaking. In order to give you the best product, this sailcloth is made from high-tenacity polyester and is woven on looms without the use of shuttles to promise the most consistent and defect free material with very tight weaves. If your preference is cruising, rather than racing, you know that your sails must still be durable. Since stretching affects a sail’s shape and, therefore, the boat’s handling, Contender’s Supercruise will add to the comfort and delight on your next excursion.

Cruising Laminates - Performance Cruising

Contender CDX

Bainbridge Polyester Cruising Laminate

Contender CDX

This Radial Performance Sail comes from one of the top sail cloth manufacturers in the world, Contender. This sail has exceptional bias stability and tear strength that comes from the ZigZag polyester fibers laminated between the taffeta.

The ZigZag polyester fibers stabilize the radial loads, allowing for a longer retention of sail shape. The USA woven UV treated polyester taffetas on both sides of the laminated cloth provide addition durability and UV protection. The CDX laminates are best for the sailors who are continually in varying wind strengths, allowing stability due to the strength of the evenly distributed ZigZag laminated panels. Perfect for a easy to handle sail because the sail shape stays flatter longer, points higher and heals less as the wind increases! Handling and strength is what sets this Contender CDX cloth apart from other Cruise Laminates!

Bainbridge Polyester Cruising Laminate

Dimension Polyant GPL Graph X with Lite Skin

Dimension Polyant Carbon Sport Lite Skin

Dimension Polyant GPL Graph X with Lite Skin

GPL Graph X Lite Skin® is a composite fabric that has been developed for both racers and cruisers of boats exceeding 40 feet in length.  It has proven durable with a sleek visual.  The appearance is striking with its opaque finish as contrasted with the conventional look and is available in seven different weight categories.

This cloth is specifically designed for extending the life expectancy by incorporating abrasion resistance but maintaining the inner scrim.  Lighter than double taffeta, it gives better performance and is more durable during races.  While cruising the sail will handle better than those with taffeta backing. It dries quicker through evaporation, which means less overall absorption.  It can accommodate glued seams for less stretch under load and a softer hand means less creasing and film shrinkage.  With an opaque finish there will be fewer visible seams and you will experience easier sail trim.

Dimension Polyant Carbon Sport Lite Skin

Carbon Sport Lite Skin is a sister product in the Carbon Sport line by Dimension.  Using a carbon based inner structure, it provides a strong, durable fabric with low stretch that is favored by club racers around the world.  This is a laminate that has proven to be an outstanding performer.

This cloth is known for its high tenacity fibers and lamination process. Dimension Polyant has devoted resources towards customizing equipment for the weaving and lamination process which allows them to produce this exceptional cloth. Available in four weights, this cloth has shown its   ability to reduce stretch while maintaining its strength during cruising on boats under 40 feet. This Lite Skin sail offers better handling with a softer hand as well as decreased weight and water evaporation.

Racing Laminates

Bainbridge Carbon Fiber Laminate (CL-DIAX-CFG)

Bainbridge DIAX-PP-P

Bainbridge Carbon Fiver Laminate (CL-DIAX-CFG)
These fabrics offer stretch resistance and shape retention better than woven sailcloth.  They are durable and long lasting.

The CL products are based on scrim component technology that uses flat, untwisted ribbons of fiber formed into several scrims.  Compared with woven cloth, this process will maximize the performance of the product. Combining lightweight polyesters or Dyneema taffeta with laminate warp/fill scrim will resist stretch and secondary loading on the sail. This means that the weight of the sail is reduced for better performance in light winds, but reduced stretch and strength are still present. All of this means better sailing and a more enjoyable experience for the sailor and crew.

Bainbridge DIAX-PP-P

For better performance in racing, the DIAX-PP-P fabric will provide a longer life for the sail.  It is a new Film-on-Taffeta design that has proven more durable and stronger than DIAX-P and equivalents.

Using the latest technology the improvements are achieved by substituting one of the film layers for a lightweight, woven taffeta. Like all DIAX products, this material is based on scrim component technology using flat, untwisted ribbons of fiber to maximize performance.  Its zero crimp warp/fill scrim will resist primary and secondary loading and it has a diagonal axis scrim to reduce bias stretch. If you are interested in racing, you should be interested in DIAX-PP-P.

Dimension Polyant Black X-Teck

Dimension Polyant GPL GraphX

Dimension Polyant Black X-Teck

This radial constructed technora fiber laminate is highly advanced and balanced to prevent unwanted elongation. This cloth utilized two high end technora scrims instead of typical polyester scrim.

The technora scrim is fill orientated for increased luff to leech strength. This is critical for roller furling and over-lapping headsails. High tenacity technora fiber offers high flex and impact durability. Black aramid warp fibers provide load line strength in tri-radial construction. Black die on the technora fibers increase UV resistance. This radial cloth comes from one of the best names in the racing industry, Dimension-Polyant!

Bainbridge DIAX-OS-HMT

Bainbridge DIAX-P

Bainbridge DIAX-OS-HMT

Because scrim fibers are laid as flat tapes, as opposed to round yarns, thickness is reduced, and adhesion improved.  Scrims are created using a process that removes the crimp that gives stretch.  Reduced hinging will lessen laminate breakdown and shrinking. DIAX-OS-HMT is a zero-crimp warp using HM Twaron fibers in primary directions.  The bias loads are controlled with DIAX scrim to reduce the load on the film and increase sail life.  It locks the warp and fill fibers to improve shape retention.  It is a film/film style.

All DIAX fabrics are known for their low stretch, light weight and durability and DIAX-OS-HMT is no different. Because scrim fibers are laid as flat tapes, as opposed to round yarns, thickness is reduced, and adhesion improved. The scrims are created using a process that removes the crimp that allows for stretch over time. This increases the shape-holding ability of the sail by reducing the load on the film and spreading the tension out more evenly, increasing the sail life.

Bainbridge DIAX-P

This material uses the best quality fiber to give you a 0-90 load bearing scrim.  With a unique manufacturing technique warp crimp is virtually eliminated and stretch is greatly reduced.

DIAX-P increases panel stability through 45 degree grids to form a diagonal stabilizer. Using the latest polyester yarns, durability is the benchmark of this sail cloth. All the DIAX products use the most recent fiber technology to provide you with the best laminate available for your application.  Using the latest polyester yarns, durability is a benchmark of this product. For a longer life for your sail and reduced film loading, opt for DIAX-P.

Contender Black Aramid

Contender ZigZag Polyester (ZZP)

Contender Black Aramid

A top choice in racing laminates is the ZZ Black Aramid Laminate from Contender.  It is popular from club through international levels.  It is constructed with ZigZag yarn to produce a sail with radial panels that have superior strength.

By adapting suggestions from yachtsmen and sailmakers, Contender developed a sophisticated fiber for efficient support and distribution of loads over radial panels.  Since this layout reduces the load on the Mylar film, the sail will retain its shape for longer periods.  You will find it has good flex and has improved UV resistance.

Contender ZigZag Polyester (ZZP)

Contender’s Black Polyester ZZP has been developed as an economical alternative for the small boat racing sailor and for one-design classes that have restrictions on higher modulus fiber usage.

Still offering the same technical appearance as carbon and black aramid material on larger racing boats. ZZP’s construction uses formed scrim and insertion process to offer exceptional resistance to flex, and greater stability overall. The black carbon coating on the formed scrim also increases the laminate’s UV resistance. If you are considering a new sail for your racer, consider Contender’s Black Polyester as a credible option.

Code Zero Laminates

Bainbridge Code Zero

Contender Code Zero

Bainbridge Code Zero

Bainbridge’s Code Zero laminate combines rugged durability with a light weight design.  The taffeta used is lighter than other materials generally used for sails and is coated with an anti-mildew treatment to prolong its lifespan.

Strength is maintained in its lamination with specially developed adhesives to increase the bond without increasing the weight.  Using low stretch fibers instead of a thicker film means the sails are lighter since bias loading is less. Additionally, scrim fibers are laid in flat tapes to reduce the thickness and enhance adhesion, as opposed to using round yarns. Bainbridge’s Code Zero Laminate is made to stand the test of time and weather.

Contender Code Zero

Contender's Code Zero laminate has been designed to be stable but light, pliable and easy to handle. This cloth meets the demand for an increasingly lighter cloth but with the strength to support performance oriented crusiers and profesional racing teams.
